The Expert Mechanism on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples at the United Nations Human Rights in Genève, Switzerland (10th session)

MCV participated in the 10th session of the Expert Mechanism on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples at the United Nations Human Rights in Genève, Switzerland from July 10th – 14th. 2017. Protection for Maasai rights was written in the 2017 annual recommendations to the UN member states and the Kenyan government thanks to MCV’s advocacy. The Permanent Forum recommended that the Maasai, along with other indigenous nations in Africa, require free, prior and informed consent regarding all decision-making pertaining to their land, resources and development. The recommendations also urged Kenya to develop laws and policies with regard to indigenous traditional knowledge.

MCV is committed to working with the United Nations to report violations and provide direct feedback from Maasailand; as well as use the UN and the UNDRIP to guide it’s actions with the Maasai people and provide education to the Maasai on their rights and protections.
