Building Maasai Futures Through Vocational Training
MCV is excited to announce that we have successfully launched the Maasai Vocational Training Center; a government-accredited (NITA) institution offering certified courses in ICT (Information and Communication Technology), Photography, Videography, Masonry, Tiling, and Food & Beverage Production.
Each program includes entrepreneurship and leadership training so students graduate not only with technical skills, but also with the ability to obtain and create jobs within their community. Located at the Maasai Heritage Center on the outskirts of Amboseli National Park, this is the only accredited vocational training institution in the region; opening doors and new opportunities for the Maasai community.
For many Maasai youth and community members (especially women and girls), access to education has been limited by school fees, distance to schools, transportation and living costs, and heavy responsibilities at home. Without access to education, youth often feel hopeless and become trapped in a cycle of poverty.
Together, we are giving the Maasai a future without leaving their ancestral land.
Maasai no longer have to leave their families to pursue education. We have built a school within the Maasai community where students can gain skills, build businesses, and prosper locally. This uplifts livelihoods and safeguarding Maasai heritage for future generations.
Now Maasai students don’t have to leave thier villages; they can attend local day training programs right in their neighborhood and earn nationally recognized certifications that lead directly to employment, small business ownership, and participation in Kenya’s growing economy and tourism sector. Already, the impact is visible — 75 students are enrolled. Students who once felt hopeless are now enrolling with excitement, gaining confidence, and building practical skills that will support their families and community.
This initiative is about more than skill development and training; it is about safeguarding Maasai heritage while building a sustainable future. Led by the Maasai for the Maasai, the program equips participants to construct infrastructure, manage enterprises within the tourism sector, document cultural knowledge through media, and strengthen businesses that support conservation efforts protecting their ancestral lands. Together, we are creating a pathway to education, economic empowerment, and stronger Maasai communities for generations to come.
What’s Needed & How You Can Make a Difference
Student Certification Support
MCV currently has 75 students enrolled and successfully completing their vocational training, but the students cannot afford the government examination fee required to receive national certification and qualify for employment. MCV already provides the teachers, curriculum, facilities, supplies, and accredited training — the final barrier is the exam. The government certification and graduation fee is $300 per student. Your support will allow students to officially graduate and access real job opportunities.
Classroom Expansion
Our Media & ICT Training Center is at full capacity. Thankfully, we already have computers, equipment, and instructors, but we need additional classrooms to accept more students. The cost is $15,000 to construct each classroom and expand digital training, allowing more Maasai youth to gain technology skills, share their stories, and build sustainable livelihoods for their future.
DSLR Cameras & Media Training Equipment Needed
For our Media Training Program, we are seeking DSLR cameras for photography and videography instruction. Gently used cameras in good working condition are welcome as donations. If you have camera equipment to donate, please email: hq@mychosenvessels.com
Culinary Training Kitchen & Maasai Heritage Café
Our culinary training is currently being held in a temporary space while we work toward building a dedicated training kitchen. To meet Government of Kenya standards, we must construct a permanent teaching facility and equip it with additional items such as ovens, preparation stations, and commercial cooking equipment required for certification. This kitchen will also serve as a community café and feeding center — providing hands-on training for students, creating jobs for local Maasai (especially women), serving meals to students and visitors, and ensuring vulnerable community members, including orphans, have access to daily food.
