A Youth-Led Indigenous AI & Digital Media Platform for
Cultural Preservation & Climate Resilience
Cultural Preservation & Climate Resilience
MaasaiGPT is a community-led cultural preservation and technology initiative that bridges ancient traditions and modern innovation. Using artificial intelligence for good, the program equips Maasai youth with government-certified ICT and digital media skills while empowering them to work at the intersection of culture and technology. Through hands-on training in computer technology, digital storytelling, immersive media, and ethical AI, Maasai youth collaborate with elders to document oral histories, safeguard traditional ecological knowledge, and ensure the Maa language and cultural wisdom remain accessible for future generations.
From the beginning of Maasai history, traditional knowledge has been passed down orally through elders stories, songs and rites of passage. Today, climate change, displacement, the impacts of boarding schools, and limited digital access place Maasai Traditional Ecological Knowledge at risk. Youth are stepping forward to safeguard this knowledge, Maasai youth are working alongside elders, cultural bearers, and youth in San Diego to document and share Maasai wisdom through ethical AI and community-led technology to ensure Indigenous voices are not left behind in the digital age.

Climate & Drought Navigation Support
MaasaiGPT is also designed as a practical survival and resilience tool. The platform supports Maasai communities by sharing weather patterns and drought indicators, assisting with grazing navigation and land-use decisions, and strengthening livestock care during extreme climate conditions.
By integrating traditional ecological knowledge with modern data, MaasaiGPT helps communities adapt to climate change while honoring ancestral land stewardship practices.

Youth ICT & Digital Media Training (Government-Certified)
Led by youth, this program equips Maasai youth with government-certified ICT and digital media skills while placing them at the forefront of cultural preservation. Through training in computer technology, photography, videography, virtual reality (VR), and ethical artificial intelligence (AI), Maasai youth are empowered to document and safeguard their own heritage while preparing for employment, entrepreneurship, and leadership in the technology sector. MCV is honored to be a certified ICT training center, enabling youth to earn nationally recognized credentials that open doors to opportunity.
Through the MaasaiGPT program, Maasai youth work alongside elders and cultural bearers to document oral histories, traditions, and traditional ecological knowledge such as grazing cycles, water sources, and medicinal plants. This documentation forms a protected digital archive designed to preserve Maasai heritage for future generations.

Join Us in Scaling the Initiative: Capacity Building & Expansion
MCV currently operates a fully functioning ICT & Cultural Documentation Center that has reached capacity, and an additional satellite center is needed, equipped with computers, electricity, Wi-Fi, and trained facilitators.
To expand ICT training, enable the Maasai to document their cultural heritage, and reach more youth — especially in remote areas where electricity, internet, and computers are often unavailable — we plan to establish a second ICT Tech Center. This site will serve as a training classroom, cultural documentation hub, and youth-led technology space supporting data collection and cultural preservation.
We already have the equipment, software, and curriculum in place. We now seek support for capacity building to construct the additional classroom and expand access for more Maasai students.
Youth Leadership & Advocacy at the United Nations
MCV youth ambassadors will share this project at the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (UNPFII) in April 2026, demonstrating how artificial intelligence can be used ethically and responsibly to protect Indigenous knowledge and ensure Indigenous voices help shape the future of technology.
