Together We Can End Her Long Walk For Water

Today in Amboseli, Kenya, thousands of women and girls wake before sunrise and walk for hours under the hot sun just to find water — often unsafe to drink. Girls miss school, and mothers spend up to 80% of their day carrying heavy containers instead of caring for their families or building better livelihoods. This is the challenge MCV is working diligently to end as we continue expanding our water programs, so the Maasai can live beyond daily survival.

Thankfully, we drilled a well at the Maasai Heritage Center producing 28,000 liters of water per hour — enough to serve surrounding Maasai communities throughout Amboseli. Together, we are transforming thirst into communities that flourish. For over 16 years, My Chosen Vessels (MCV) has partnered with the Maasai community to bring sustainable, life-changing access to clean water. To date we provided 85,000+ Maasai people with safe reliable water where there was once none.

This is only the beginning. We now need your support to expand the water system at the Maasai Heritage Center so it can reach 25,000+ additional people in nearby areas facing severe drought, while strengthening food security and local livelihoods. This phase will extend pipelines to the road and neighboring communities, install storage tanks, bring water to the community garden so fruit trees can grow instead of dust, and create a distrubution system to continue supporting the women-led water bottling enterprise to create local income and long-term sustainability.

Current Water Program Status: Purified Water Secured at the Maasai Heritage Center

Drilled a high-capacity well producing 28,000 liters of clean water per hour

Engaged 40 youth who traveled to Kenya for service-learning & presented this water program at the United Nations in NYC

Next Phase: Expanding the Water System to Serve 25,000+ Maasai People

Water Distribution Pipeline

Expansion of water piping to the main road to create a public access point for community use and regional water distribution across Kenya and Tanzania. This includes an accessible truck fill point, a drip irrigation line to the Maasai garden, and a booster pump to maintain pressure, providing reliable water for the public as well as student and staff housing and bathrooms at the Maasai Heritage Center.

Water Bottling Facility Infrastructure & Supply Needs

Your support will help complete the bottling facility to meet Kenya government certification standards, enabling Maasai women to legally sell water, earn income, and fund future wells. This includes upgrading the water heater for sanitation, installing ventilation system, providing water quality testing equipment, and adding a safe lit walking path for employees and the community with security lights, giving Maasai women work uniforms for clean operations, and adding additional bottles and labels to create a successful water bottling enterprise for the Maasai community.

Water Storage Tanks

Expanded water storage capacity to ensure reliable water access — supplying the entire Maasai Heritage Center compound (staff housing, volunteer and student accommodations), providing consistent water to the public along the road, and supporting community water points in nearby villages.

Water Distribution Vehicle

A motorized Tuk-Tuk utility vehicle used to transport and distribute water to remote homes, nearby villages, schools, hotels, and shops. The vehicle supports distribution for the women-owned enterprise, allowing the business to reliably supply water and reach remote communities beyond walking distance.

3-month business training for 8 Maasai women including maintenance and sanitation training and ICT certification.

Business Licenses & Certification

To meet Kenya government certification requirements allowing Maasai women to legally sell water, earn income, and generate funds to drill more wells, this phase includes public health and fire inspection compliance, installation of fire extinguishers, registration of the ENKARE social enterprise, and KEBS licensing with official government water testing and certification for the Maasai community to legally operate and sell water in Kenya.
